Premier League: Stylish Southampton oust lacklustre Fulham at St Mary's
Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriquez both struck home as Southampton produced a dominating display to dispel a below-par Fulham 2-0 at St Mary's on Saturday. Rodriquez set up the first for Lambert before the pair switched roles for the second as the Saints extended their unbeaten run to seven games in the top flight. Southampton, buoyant from their draw with Manchester United last time out, made a lively start on home soil and reaped their rewards in the 20th minute when Lambert headed home from an acute angle at the back post. Pochettino's men continued to dominate throughout the first half, creating several chances before eventually doubling their advantage when Rodriquez nodded in after Lambert selflessly headed across the face of goal from a drifting Lallana cross. Southampton enjoyed 65 per-cent of the possession in the second half and produced 19 chances in the games, as opposed to the two of Fulham, which proved to be the telling tale of the game. Victory elevates Southampton into third with 18 points, ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham, who are both in action tomorrow. More to follow...
